18 NC Students Advance to INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

Raleigh, N.C. – March 28, 2018 – The NC Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF) and its Presenting Sponsor, the Biogen Foundation, are proud to announce the winners of the 31st NCSEF competition held on March 24 at North Carolina State University.  320 STEM student researchers, grades 3-12, from across the state, defended their research projects to 140 judges from the STEM business, education, and governmental organizations.  A full listing of all student awards by Elementary (3-5), Junior (6-8), and Senior (9-12) are posted under the Media tab at http://www.ncsciencefair.org

INTEL ISEF NCSEF 2018 2Based on the seven STEM research categories, 60 awards from business, education, government, and non-profit STEM partners, were awarded.  NCSEF Director Judy Day said, “Our local and regional teachers and fair directors from across North Carolina continue to raise the standards for student research in all STEM areas.  Our judges continue to share their enthusiasm for the innovation and quality of student work as evidenced in their student interviews.”

In the Senior Division, grades 9-12, twelve individual or team projects, consisting of 18 students, were selected as Grand Award winners and will represent the NCSEF at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pittsburg, PA, on May 13-18, 2018. ISEF is the largest international science competition in the world drawing 1,800 students from across the US and 75 other countries.  Students will compete for awards and prizes totaling $4 million.
