Raleigh, N.C. – March 23, 2012 – 300 young scientists from across the state will convene at Meredith College in Raleigh on Sat., March 24, to participate in the 25th N.C. Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF). Students from 3rd grade through 12th grade will defend their original science and engineering research before 130 scientists and engineers.

Public viewing of the student research projects will be from 1:00 – 3:30 pm in the Science and Math Building (grades 6-12) and Ledford Hall (grades 9-12) on Meredith’s campus.

The Awards Ceremonies will be held in the Jones Auditorium at the following times:

Elementary Division (Grades 3-5) at 3:00 pm

Junior Division (Grades 6-8) at 4:15 pm

Senior Division (Grades 9-12) at 5:30 pm

Students will compete for financial awards and the opportunity to present at two prestigious international student research competitions. Selected high school students will represent North Carolina in the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pittsburgh, PA. They will display their research along with 1,500 students from over 40 countries. Two high school projects will advance to represent North Carolina at the International Sustainable World of Energy, Engineering & Environment Project Olympiad (ISWEEEP) in Houston, Texas. Top middle school projects will be nominated to participate in the Broadcom MASTERS™ (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars), a program of the Society for Science & the Public, that inspires and encourages the nation's young scientists, engineers and innovators.
